BVS Bulldog Buzz
Welcome to our Bulldog Buzz
2022-2023 May-June EDITION
From the Desk of Principal Lauer
Hello BVS Families and Friends,
It is hard to believe that it is time for our last BVS Bulldog Buzz Newsletter of the 2022-2023 school year. I was just looking through the draft of our school yearbook and was reflecting on all of the fun things that happened at BVS over the past several months. I am grateful to our BVS staff who not only provide engaging learning experiences for our students, but also make the time to do fun things that allow students to make connections and build relationships within their classrooms and across our school community. And, the fun is not over! May and June are filled with field trips, picnics, our fabulous BVS Field Day to celebrate the year, and of course, Kindergarten and 5th Grade Moving Up Days. We also have some end-of-year opportunities for you to join us as our musicians take the stage. Along with our Level 4 and 5 Band, Orchestra, and Chorus Concerts, our Level 3 students will be hitting the stage for the annual Recorder and Chorus Concert. I also want to give a plug for our hard-working PTSA who does so many things to support our BVS Learning Community! They are hosting a Weidner's Chicken BBQ on Thursday, May 11, so please consider purchasing tickets and letting us cook dinner for you and your familiy that evening. The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open for shopping during the Chicken BBQ, so come on in! As always, we look forward to seeing you!
PTSA Volunteers Needed...
We have some fun events that are happening between now and the end of the school year, and our PTSA needs your help! If you are interested in serving as a school volunteer, please call the main office for more information. Those wishing to volunteer in the classroom, at PTSA events, or to chaperone field trips must complete our school volunteer training in advance of any of these opportunites. This training must be completed each school year. We recommend completing this process now so that you are ready to go when volunteer opportunities arise.

Updates from the Health Office
The weather is warming up and the end of the school year is quickly approaching. With that in mind remember to send your children to school with a water bottle, appropriate foot wear for outside recess and sunscreen if needed. Sunscreen is not to be applied without a Dr's order during school hours.
Those with outstanding physicals have been contacted. You will continue to get an operoo notification until physical is received or notification of upcoming appointment.
For those students that have medication in the health office. You will be receiving notification about end of the school year pick up. All meds not picked up by the last day of school will be discarded. Just a reminder that students that receive medications during school hours need an updated order from their doctor each school year.
For those students in Grade 5…we are already getting ready to transition them to the Middle School. Students who are entering into Grade 6 need their TDAP booster vaccination and 2 doses of Varicella completed. Send in documentation if your child has already received these required vaccinations or will be receiving them prior to the end of the school year. If your child’s birthday falls between late June to September, forward necessary documentation to the Middle School health office.
Any other questions or concerns can be directed to the Health Office 646-3242.

Counselor's Corner
Throughout the months of May & June our last power word of the year will be DETERMINATION, and what a great word to end with! Our focus through our “I can” statements will be goal setting, action plans, using our best efforts, facing challenges and asking for help along the way.
When we talk about teaching children hard work and determination, we’re not talking about the idea of making children tough or callusing their little hands or emotions. We’re talking about building their self-confidence and self-image to pursue their dreams, achieve their goals, and to have the chance to “stay the course” even when something is difficult.
Teaching our children determination involves offering them chances to try new things, encouraging them through their hard work and tries. Helping them “troubleshoot” when they hit a speed bump, and lastly offering effort-oriented praise instead of results-only praise.
Help us this month to discuss and teach about determination with your child(ren) and how it will help them with their goals, dreams and future. These lessons will be lifelong and will also help shape them into responsible, happy, and caring adults not only to others but to themselves!
BVS Lunch Menu
Click Link to view lunch menu and for information on pre-payment options.
We look forward to serving your child this school year! Both breakfast and lunch are available each day. Please note that meals are no longer served free of charge.
Meal prices for this school year are as follows, $1.75 for breakfast and $2.75 for lunch.
We kindly ask that you consider using the My School Bucks option to pay for your child's school meals. This option also allows you to track your child's purchases in the cafeteria and will send notification when funds need replenished. If you prefer to pay with cash or a check, please send your payment to school in a sealed envelope labeled with both your child's name and his/her teacher's name, as well as the amount of the payment. Envelopes will be collected in the classroom and sent to the cafeteria.
News from the Office:
Our Main Office staff is looking forward to connecting with you this school year. When you call the Main Office, you can expect to speak with Mrs. Susan Bunch or Mrs. Doreen Bailey. A couple of things to keep in mind:
Requests for bus passes are not able to be accommodated. If your child will be getting on or off the bus at a location other than your home on a regular basis, you do need to submit an Alternate Site Request. These requests can take up to 10-business days to process, so please be sure to submit in a timely manner.
If there is a change to your child's daily dismissal, please send a note to school with your child indicating the change. Your child will turn this note into their teacher and it will then be sent to the Main Office.
If you need to change your child's dismissal plans during the school day, please call the Main Office as early as possible for assistance.
We appreciate your understanding that we are not able to put phone calls through to classrooms during the school day when staff are teaching. If you need to speak with a teacher, we will connect you to their voicemail so that you may leave a message.
We are here for you! Please call if you have a question or need assistance.
